NYSRA’s efforts against Mayor de Blasio’s Congestion Plan being recognized!

Politico, a political insider news organization,  recently released a piece that detailed the numerous concerns the business community has over Mayor de Blasio's congestion pilot program. The program, which is set to be rolled out over the next couple of months, will create a number of issues for restaurants located in busy areas of the City. The program is designed to prohibit delivery trucks from making stops during rush hour periods and in some areas would not allow these trucks to park on particular sides of the street, adding obstacles to what is already a complicated process. The Association has met with the Department of Transportation and the Mayor's office on this topic to express our concerns over the damage this may cause to restaurants in these areas.

The NYS Restaurant Association is not alone in this fight and is proud to be part of a business coalition that is battling against this initiative. We have joined with a number of local Chambers of Commerce and other industry organizations to voice our displeasure over this program and also how it was decided through mayoral order instead of through the legislative process. Politico highlighted these issues while also making mention that our group is pushing the Mayor to  “re-evaluate the plan and replace it with one that addresses congestion in a more meaningful way”.

The current six month pilot plan will impact those restaurants located in specific corridors on Flatbush and Roosevelt Avenues and those in the times square area. If you would like more information on the specific portions of the plan please contact our New York City Director Ron Mathews at Ron@nysra.org

Please let us know your thoughts on this proposal and the ways it will impact your business. It will be important to track to ensure this program will not be adopted fully after the pilot program ends.
